 Re: Essential Reading 2010

Renault acting boss Bob Bell says they expect to be challenging for the title in 2011...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80713
...but effectively says they won't be a force in 2010.
Quote:
The real target for us is to build for 2011...
We are not going to produce a car that catapults us to the front

Now Bell may be speaking the truth, but considering his manager already seems to be looking for way out, does this make Kubica feel more hopeful for next year?
And is that going to win badly-needed sponsors?

If you have a subscription to Autosport there's a tribute to Henry Surtees written by his father.

Quote:
"It would have been easier if he'd over done it, got it wrong and crashed. But to be taken out by someone else's accident is hard to take. It's the cruellest thing. I get near the edge at times but I have to think at least we had 18 and a half years of a loving son and brother, and a lot of exciting and wonderful experiences together."

Mercedes are targetting a top 3 finish in 2010, according to Nick Fry
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 77,00.html

Quite a step back really, when you consider that they still have what's considered to be the strongest engine, more money for development (especially during the season) and a driver pairing that many would consider to be at least as strong as last year - just think how many people said Button didn't deserve his title.

I know everyone will have a double diffuser this year, but the Brawn was about so much more than just that one part. And while I accept that McLaren & Ferrari will surely be stronger than last year, I think it's pretty poor for the reigning champions to be setting their sights so low. Wonder what Norbert Haug thinks of this? Or Ron Dennis?

While in complete contrast to Qadbak's fortunes, Tony Fernandes, boss of the new Lotus F1 team, is apparently bidding to buy West Ham United (link)
Will Lotus paint their cars claret and blue? Will West Ham be sponsored by Lotus?

You couldn't make it up, sick as a parrot, that was never a penalty, the Referee's a w... etc - will these replace "for sure" in the drivers press conference?

That sounds like he is permanent in rally then. Or is he playing Cat and Mouse with the media again. I still have a feeling Red Bull really want him in 2011, question is does Kimi want to drive for Red Bull in 2011?

Odd, oor Bernie is looking at buying SAAB along with Genii capital, the group that recently bought into Renault.

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/b ... 980377.ece

Thinking ahead. Renault reportedly have an agreement to keep their name on the car for the next couple of seasons until the concorde agreement runs out. Therefore, assuming they pull this off, the team could become SAAB after that...

Red Bull over ice anyone?

That's the car obviously. To celebrate the return of F1 to Canada (was it away for so long?) Red Bull are sending Buemi out on to a ice covered circuit. 17th January may be too late to pick up a few tips for dealing with the weather on this side of the Atlantic though.
