Hamilton Shines in Belgium

Lewis Hamilton calmly navigated a chaotic Belgian Grand Prix to regain the lead in the World Championship. The McLaren driver even had time to take an excursion through the gravel at Rivage, as the rain came down in the closing stages with Hamilton still on slicks. Kimi Raikkonen won the Belgian Grand Prix for Ferrari, his fourth victory at the circuit and ending a losing streak stretching back to last year’s Spanish Grand Prix. However, pole position Giancarlo Fisichella’s Force India pushed him all the way to the finish after the Finn edged past on a safety car restart thanks to KERS.

The race turned on the first lap chaos and ensuing safety car period. Fisichella made a clean get away but behind him a late braking Nick Heidfeld slipped wide, leaving Raikkonen to take evasive action …

Giancarlo Fisichella clinched an astonishing first pole position for Force India as the team goes in search of its first points in an extraordinary qualifying session in Belgium. Meanwhile, World Championship leader Jenson Button was left struggling down in 14th as Jarno Trulli and Toyota completed the front row.

In Valencia, Brawn returned to their winning ways while the in-form Red Bull came away empty-handed. However, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel will take comfort in the fact that Spa-Francorchamps is a very different circuit.
