Belgian GP: Tyre and Pit Stop Strategy

Despite rumours circulated by certain members of the German press that Red Bull were calling for mandatory three stops such was the degree of tyre degradation reportedly observed during qualifying, Jenson Button dominated the Belgian Grand Prix from start to finish via just a solitary visit to the pit lane. Two tyre changes were the norm, however, although ironically, it was Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel who overcame a poor start by also making the single pit stop…

Stats from Hockenheim Qualifying

Changeable weather conditions always seem to produce exciting qualifying sessions and Hockenheim qualifying was to prove no exception. Oddly, a different tyre type was needed in each session with mediums in Q1, intermediates in Q2 and full wets in Q3 as the track became progressively wetter. Once again it was Jean-Eric Vergne who fell foul of the first cut-off, failing to progress beyond the first session for the sixth time this season, just five hundredth’s of a second behind Michael Schumacher in 17th…

Advantage Vettel in Bahrain

Race four. Winner number four. Team number four. So far 2012 has been characterised by wildly fluctuating fortunes for the teams and this time it was Red Bull and Lotus’s turn to have a strong race as Sebastian Vettel took the chequered flag. Kimi Raikkonen finished hot on heels for Lotus while team mate Romain Gorsjean clinched his first podium in Formula One. Mark Webber finished fourth to ensure the first four cars were all powered by Renault.

Vettel Clinches Bahrain Pole

After three winners from three teams in the first three races, it was Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel’s turn to step into the limelight in qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Don’t say that 2012 is predictable. A time of 1 minute 32.422s saw him edge out McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton by a tenth of a second with Mark webber a further tenth back in third. In fact, spookily the first seven were all neatly stacked up with 0.1 second gaps.

Button Opens Season With Victory

Jenson Button claimed his third victory in the Australian Grand Prix with an assured drive after a better start handed him the lead. Sebastian Vettel recovered from Red Bull’s relatively poor qualifying session to take second after luck shone on the defending champion in the form of a perfectly timed safety car handing him the chance to leapfrog Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull, the RB8 and the Nose Duct

Has Adrian Newey done it again? The World Champions revealed the RB8 today and it goes into the season the favourite to repeat its success. Fans may be disappointed that it is not bucking the trend for crooked noses but the RB8 does sport a little trick on its bump. However, will it be enough to offset having to compromise the front design?
