Schumacher Tops Shanghai Free Practice

Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher went quickest on the first day of practice with a best time of 1 minute 35.973s but Lewis Hamilton, quickest in the damp first session, wasn’t far behind for McLaren and looked like he would beat it until he lost time in the final sector. Team mate Jenson Button, however, was left complaining of “way too much understeer” to his race engineer…

Season Gets Underway in Melbourne

The season got underway under damp conditions in Melbourne, meaning it’s still anyone guess as to where anyone is in the overall pecking order. McLaren went quickest in the first session, Jenson Button pipping his team mate as the track quickly dried out. Just behind them was the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher who set the fastest lap of a wet second free practice with a late lap as the track began to dry.

F1 Testing: Day 4 Analysis

Here endeth pre-season testing. Kimi Raikkonen finished as he started off testing in Jerez a month ago – sitting at the top of the timesheets, this time with the fastest lap of all eight days of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. Sebastian Vettel, on the otherhand, was left propping up the table as a crash in which he damaged Red Bull’s latest front wing and gearbox problems limited him to a handful of laps.

F1 Testing: Day 1 Analysis

After a disastrous second test, Lotus and Romain Grosjean returned to where they’d left off at the end of the first test – at the top of the time sheets. Meanwhile Red Bull, Ferrari and, in particular, Mercedes are already well into running long stints. That comes ahead of race simulations which, for me, are more informative than the headline-grabbing quick laps set on unknown fuel quantities.
