Lotus F1 E20: E for Express?

Following a poor 2011, after being led up the garden path by the forward facing exhaust concept, Renault return as Lotus F1 and with an all new driver line-up of Romain Grosjean and some former World Champion called Kimi Raikkonen. Will it be enough, though, to reverse the outfit’s steady decline?

Is Kimi Raikkonen The Right Man?

This weekend, the media cooled on the Kimi Raikkonen to Williams rumours – Raikonnen-Renault becoming the new flavour of the month and sure enough, this morning the Finn was confirmed as a Renault, or Lotus as it will be, driver next year. I actually thought Raikkonen was the wrong man for Williams as they try to pick up the team from a terrible season, anyway. However, with Renault suffering a similarly turbulent second half of the year, I wonder if the same will be in store for Lotus next year.

I first got into Formula One in 2007 as my dad used to watch the races and I got more involved with each race that passed. It was Lewis Hamilton who really got me addicted to the sport and by the 2008 season we booked tickets for Silverstone. Along with this, after seeing Hamilton’s heroics and the unpredictability of Spa in 2008 I …

My background as an F1 fan began in 2000, at the tender age of 6. During the 2000 Belgian GP, I found myself channel hopping in the hope it would quell my Sunday afternoon boredom. The moment I flicked to the F1 Mika Hakkinen was putting the extraordinary move on Michael Schumacher at Les Combes whilst lapping Ricardo Zonta. I was hooked. Hakkinen’s humility in the press conference was astonishing. I was in awe of Hakkinen. He was my first sporting hero. His McLaren replacement, Kimi Raikkonen (Another Finn) amazed …

With the season ended, it seemed it would be just a matter of time before Brawn GP announced that they had signed a new contract with Jenson Button and the remaining drivers’ seats would be decided. With negotiations seemingly stalled over the money Jenson could demand for his number one status things were moving on behind the scenes. Whilst still in talks with Jenson, Ross Brawn announced that the team which bore his name had been bought by Mercedes-Benz and would be renamed Mercedes GP, a return of the “Silver …
