I’ve taken a look at the qualifying performance of three of the teams occupying mid-field positions, Williams, Toro Rosso and Force India. Has their development rate kept pace with the front runners as Team Lotus seems to have done, or are they falling further behind?

In this week’s Caption This… Vijay Mallya, Team Principal of Force India is seen practicing his victory “finger” prior to the Italian GP. Maybe he hasn’t quite realised that the finger needs to be vertically oriented for best effect but it does seem to have had some success after Paul di Resta’s 8th place finish.
