Like many fans, the multi-faceted aspect of Formula One appeals to me as much as the racing. The many technological and safety innovations introduced each year and even the politics behind the decision making process all combine to make this a fascinating sport to follow. By this time last season there had already been a couple of major scandals to make the F1 news headlines, whilst it was great to discuss the politics behind those issues I’d have to wonder if part of the reason for so much antagonism and …

I am really surprised about which direction the support for the 107% qualifying rule is coming from. Ferrari yes, we’re quite clear on the fact that they’re not exactly best friends with the riff raff down at the other end of the pitlane. Similarly, I can easily understand why other front running teams might not like having to repeatedly lap slow backmarkers. Fans will have their opinion one way or another, personally I’m against the idea but what is really surprising is that the FIA is so keen on the …

Meeting in Bahrain, the World Motor Sport Council has clarified its procedures in the wake of the overturning of Flavio Briatore’s ban in order to demonstrate the independance of prosecution and judgment functions in disciplinary matters:

So the American Dream is over and USF1 has failed to make it to the 2010 championship. Campos barely got there but there is no doubt that USF1 became a laughing stock and may even have harmed the image of the sport – at the very least they have raised very important questions about the selection process, and why they were chosen over other, seemingly stronger and more valid proposals.

Now I fully admit that hindsight is a wonderful thing, but surely the FIA should have known that USF1 were among …

We are less than 2 weeks from the start of the 2010 F1 season which should have 4 new teams. Lotus seem to be in good condition. They are financially sound and their car seems to be reliable. Virgin are in good financial condition but their car has not shown the reliability that the rest of the field have. Campos have been taken over and the new owner seems less than impressed with the job done by his predecessor. And then there is USF1 which launched with a fanfare then …

I love Ferrari press releases – while others are singing the praises of their various corporate sponsors, at The Scuderia every inch reflects their political stance and every comment has to be read looking at the wider picture. For example, recent testing reports have mentioned the weather heavily hinting that the team longs for the warmer climes of Bahrain, dust storms or not. So it’s fantastic when you get a really open article like this, discussing the new teams, and leaving no doubt as to what they think of the …
