A round-up of the first of two tests at the Circuit de Catalunya before the season opening round in Melbourne. McLaren’s Sergio Pérez set the pace, fractionally ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, before the final day was hit by rain. Williams had perhaps the most productive week, racking up 367 laps before the wet track hampered everyone’s plans. Meanwhile, Adrian Sutil made his return to Formula One…

Viva F1’s Factfile ahead of the second Formula One test which sees the outfits move to the aerodynamically challenging Circuit de Catalunya. In Jerez, Felipe Massa set the pace but most eyes were on Jenson Button’s first day lap time. This week also sees the track debut of Williams’ 2013 car having run a modified version of last year’s racer.

Round Five of the 2012 Formula One season sees the teams heading to their first race of the year on European soil. The Circuit de Catalunya is a venue the teams know very well from winter testing. After eight days there earlier in the year, the teams will have a head start in preparing for this weekend’s race although they will still have to consider the higher track temperatures. Formula One returns to the Circuit de Catalunya for the third and final test before the opening race in Australia on 18th March. Ferrari and Red Bull had planned to start a day later than their rivals, extending the test in to Monday until the FIA stepped in with a clarification of the testing rules. As it happens, however, the FIA may be doing them a favour as Monday is currently forecast to be wet while Thursday is set to be the best day…
