The 2012 season comes to a close at Brazil’s Interlagos circuit and there’s still the small matter of the World Drivers’ Championship to decide. Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso go head-to-head in season finale that has the hallmarks of 2008’s title decider – if we even get close to that astonishing conclusion we’ll be in for a treat.

Mark Webber ensured he didn’t leave 2011 without a winners’ trophy to his name after clinching the season finale in Brazil. Red Bull always looked like the team to beat and he and race leader Sebastian Vettel quickly pulled away from the chasing pack. However, gearbox troubles for Vettel handed the initiative to Webber while the German had to nurse the RB7 home to second place.

Sebastian Vettel rounded-off 2011 with a new record for the number of pole positions in one year. A time of 1 minute 11.918s saw him edge out his team mate in an all-Red Bull front row as Mark Webber tries to avoid finishing the season without a victory. Lewis Hamilton went quickest on the first day of practice with a best time of 1 minute 13.392s but with just four tenths separating him from seventh quickest Jenson Button, there was little to choose between the front runners. It was a busy day for the teams with a new soft compound being used this weekend as well as the opportunity to test a new hard compound ahead of next year. However, perfect conditions aided their progress although showers remain a possibility for later in the weekend.

The final race of the 2011 season approaches and what better place to end the year than at the much loved Autódromo José Carlos Pace, home of the Brazilian Grands Prix. Although both driver’s and constructor’s championships were decided several weeks ago Brazil has played host to many epic battles and memorable moments … how much do you remember about them?
