Webber Closes Season with a Win

Mark Webber ensured he didn’t leave 2011 without a winners’ trophy to his name after clinching the season finale in Brazil. Red Bull always looked like the team to beat and he and race leader Sebastian Vettel quickly pulled away from the chasing pack. However, gearbox troubles for Vettel handed the initiative to Webber while the German had to nurse the RB7 home to second place.

Lewis Hamilton returned to form with an outstanding final lap at Monza stealing pole position from Force India’s Adrian Sutil by just short of 0.2 seconds. The young German was tantalizingly close to securing his maiden pole position until a forced error early on in his final lap cost him some time.

After 8 season and 130 race starts, Mark Webber the nearly man, finally took the chequered flag in first position at the Nurburgring.

Mark’s win was outstanding in that he didn’t make it easy for himself, having been involved in controversy right from the start. After a magical run up to the first corner assisted by KERS, Hamilton clipped his rear wheel on the front wheel of Webber’s car.
