Summer Swap Shop
Twenty seven days until the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa… not that I’m counting (much!), so if you’re like me and at a bit of a loose end over how to get your F1 fix during the summer break why not have a go at the F1 Bloggers Swap Shop? The plan is simple, instead of swapping toys and games as they did in the original television series, the bloggers’ swap shop exchanges articles amongst participating websites.
So how would it work?
This is where I need your help; we’ll need guest bloggers (the more the merrier) who’d be willing to write an F1 or motorsports related post, and hosts sites who’ll display the content, if you have a blog site of your own you can do both. If you’d like to take part all you have to do is decide whether you want to blog, host, or do both and leave a response in the comments below. Once we have an idea of the numbers of people willing to take part we can sort out a list of who will blog and details of the site chosen to host the guest’s post. Don’t worry if you can only write a guest article and can’t host someone else’s work, I’m sure there will be plenty of sites looking for fresh interesting content during the F1 summer break who’d be delighted to showcase your work.
What’s in it for the host blog?
Who doesn’t want fresh new content for their blog and the chance to get new readers? What have you got to lose?
What’s in it for the blogger?
Whether you are an established blogger or someone who’s thinking of writing for the first time it’s a chance to highlight your work to a wider audience and have it read by people who may not have had the chance to see your work before. If you are new to blogging, it gives you a chance to try blogging and see if you like it, you never know you might just get bitten by the bug and start your own blog.
Rules, what rules!
Just add a comment below and details of whether you are willing to write, host or both. If you could comment by Friday (5th August) at 12 noon UK time I’ll organise the list in time for the evening and post that here, so you’ll have plenty of time to dream up ideas for posting the following weekend. Articles should be about F1 or other motorsports series, they can be on anything you fancy within that broad remit, your thoughts on a race, statistics, event history… the choice is yours. One last point, all work should be original and not something that you or someone else has published elsewhere. That’s all there is to it!
Any questions?

I’m interested in a swap but haven’t had a chance to think of a topic to write or have written. Though i’m interested in someone else’s view of INCONSISTENT PENALTIES in F1
OR
F1 Teams’ policies of “Main Driver e.g. Ferrari & RedBull vs Equal Driver opportunities McLaren & Toro Rosso”
Looking forward to your responses or suggestions for me
@duskyblogF1(Quote) (Reply)
@duskyblogF1,
Hmm interesting topics, I have a list of most of the penalties in the stats section here if anyone is interested in the penalties question, I wouldn’t promise that it’s as complete as in previous years as the FIA seem to have stopped putting them in the public domain. Don’t get me started on the driver opportunities question though
I think ALL the teams do it, some are just more open about it than others; is it better to know where you stand within a team on that question or just get the surprise “move over” message?
As for my suggestions, I deliberately keep that a bit vague so that people can write about what they find interesting at the time. I’m a bit of a fan of F1 history, safety initiatives and stats so if I write for someone it’ll probably be on one of those areas.
Can I just confirm that you’d like to write and host but you’d prefer someone to guest for you on one of your ideas above?

saltire,
I’m happy to write too if someone suggests an interesting topic to me.
By the way, i’ve probably missed the point of this ’swap shop’ by suggesting random topics but something else I thought of is if F1 would benefit from having ’spare cars’ to reduce the instances of DNFs – as we saw with Team Lotus last weekend.
Just as a hypothetical scenario, since it wouldn’t fly on the basis of being too expensive.

@duskyblogf1,
If you are stuck for a topic what about discussing the situation with test and reserve drivers being unable to progress to a race seat, or, does the lack of testing benefit teams with more money to spend on CFD and wind tunnel facilities?
Looks like Jake is interested in writing for you Dusky

I’d like to write. I’ve been thinking about starting my own blog so it’d be good to see what it’s like

I’m happy to host! I’m a tad busy this week so I can’t promise I can write anything though.

More than happy to be able to host and write

If I could I’d like to write a guest post if someone would have me.
I blogged a while back, but have fallen out of practice and into more traditional journalistic writing. If someone would poke me with a stick to write a blog post that’d be great.
While I have no idea how this works – whether I pick a topic or get one suggested – all I can say is my main knowledge lies in general motorsports rather than F1 as I tend to chase national series around the UK for The Checkered Flag.

Thanks guys and nice to see some new people wanting to take part.
For those that have asked how it will work, the plan is that you get to choose your own topic or you can ask your host blog for a suggestion.
I’ll put up a thread here on Friday saying where work will be presented, after that it’s up to you to arrange with the host site about when your post will be on display. I’ll make one of those bit.ly bundles to advertise the posts once they are on display and hopefully we’ll get writers and hosts tweeting to publicise the work.
Here are details of those signed up so far.

HI Jackie,
As said on our e-mail, I’ll host a couple and I may write one next week.

If posts aren’t due until 13-14 then I may be able to write a quick something if I’m given a bit of inspiration.
Pat W(Quote) (Reply)
I’ll happily host. If you’ve never seen wtf1 before I’d be looking for something tongue-in-cheek
Count me in.
TommyB(Quote) (Reply)
TommyB,
Doesn’t have to be a comedy article though. Just looking at F1 as popular culture as opposed to technical things and what is going on on the track.
F1 Liveries, F1 in Films, Top Tens, F1 Fans, Videos etc.
TommyB(Quote) (Reply)
TommyB,
Cheers my dear
Now who is up for the challenge?
saltire(Quote) (Reply)
I’m stumped for inspiration at the moment – save for my favourite stock topic – the state of international sportscar racing.
Someone hit me with a stick, would love to blog on a subject, even if I didn’t come up with it…
James(Quote) (Reply)
James,
Thht sounds a fine topic to me. What kind of topics do you enjoy reading, you might enjoy writing about them too?
Maybe twitter can help with some suggestions.
saltire(Quote) (Reply)
I’ll either write or be the host with the most. I write about anything with wheels – you can find me here… raceoftwoworlds.wordpress.com
Phil Cee(Quote) (Reply)
James, I would very happily have an article on the state of Sportscars. In return I could write you a review of what biscuits go best with Nascar.
Phil Cee(Quote) (Reply)
I think I can host a blog if work does not make me super tried….
Jordan_F1(Quote) (Reply)
I’m always open to suggestions, almost want to get out my comfort zone a little – yes, I appreciate that sounds a little odd.
Phil, I’m afraid I can’t offer a spot on a blog in return. I do have my own blog, but it’s not really updated – last post was in March. Day job and weekends at racetracks tend to eat too much time for that in general.
James(Quote) (Reply)
I’m really looking forward to writing for the swap shop! Warning: My F1 writing is not at all technical and usually involves personal experience/opinion.
Marina(Quote) (Reply)
In case anyone missed the post outlining the swaps to take place it’s here http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=7891
