Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher went quickest on the first day of practice with a best time of 1 minute 35.973s but Lewis Hamilton, quickest in the damp first session, wasn’t far behind for McLaren and looked like he would beat it until he lost time in the final sector. McLaren Sets the Pace in Malaysia

McLaren continued from where they left off in Australia as Lewis Hamilton topped the time sheets in both of the day’s practice sessions. Team mate Jenson Button was not far away although his day was plagued by mechanical issues. However, with the rest of the weekend forecast to be wet, today’s dry laps may have limited use…

Season Gets Underway in Melbourne

The season got underway under damp conditions in Melbourne, meaning it’s still anyone guess as to where anyone is in the overall pecking order. McLaren went quickest in the first session, Jenson Button pipping his team mate as the track quickly dried out. Just behind them was the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher who set the fastest lap of a wet second free practice with a late lap as the track began to dry.

Final Round of the Season Gets Underway

Lewis Hamilton went quickest on the first day of practice with a best time of 1 minute 13.392s but with just four tenths separating him from seventh quickest Jenson Button, there was little to choose between the front runners. It was a busy day for the teams with a new soft compound being used this weekend as well as the opportunity to test a new hard compound ahead of next year. However, perfect conditions aided their progress although showers remain a possibility for later in the weekend.

Lewis Hamilton set the pace in free practice as he led a McLaren 1-2 at the Yas Marina.
