Having gone quickest during free practice and qualifying, Lewis Hamilton completed the job with a dominant victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Lotus tried to put the McLaren driver under pressure, first in the form of Romain Grosjean before Kimi Raikkonen had his chance in the closing stages as the strategy unfolded. In truth, though, Hamilton seldom looked troubled.

Pole position looked like being Lewis Hamilton’s from start to finish in Hungary but further down the grid, there were more questions to be answered. Romain Grosjean completed the front row, the Lotus driver back on the qualifying form that has been missing for the last two races…

Formula One heads straight from Germany and off to Hungary and into the second half of the season… And then it promptly shuts down for a month. Before the teams can enjoy a well deserved rest, however, there is still the matter of what is a deceptively tricky and technically challenging circuit…

Jenson Button marked his 200th Grand Prix start with victory in Hungary, calmly dealing with the changeable conditions. It wasn’t all plain sailing for McLaren, however, as a series of strategy moves relegated Lewis Hamilton from what would have been a comfortable win to having to fight his way back up to fourth. However, Sebastian Vettel was probably the day’s big winner, extending his Championship lead out to 85 points…

Sebastian Vettel returned to being the Red Bull man at the front of the grid, just edging out McLaren on his final run with a time of 1 minute 19.815, just 0.163 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Jenson Button’s late run saw him snatch third while Felipe Massa, running last of the main contenders, pipped Fernando Alonso for the first time this year…
