Webber Closes Season with a Win

Mark Webber ensured he didn’t leave 2011 without a winners’ trophy to his name after clinching the season finale in Brazil. Red Bull always looked like the team to beat and he and race leader Sebastian Vettel quickly pulled away from the chasing pack. However, gearbox troubles for Vettel handed the initiative to Webber while the German had to nurse the RB7 home to second place.

Final Round of the Season Gets Underway

Lewis Hamilton went quickest on the first day of practice with a best time of 1 minute 13.392s but with just four tenths separating him from seventh quickest Jenson Button, there was little to choose between the front runners. It was a busy day for the teams with a new soft compound being used this weekend as well as the opportunity to test a new hard compound ahead of next year. However, perfect conditions aided their progress although showers remain a possibility for later in the weekend.
